Salt Water Flotation Experience
This will make you feel fantastically relaxed
Flotation therapy is a unique and relaxing escape from daily stress, and a natural way to heal the body and mind.
A thousand pounds of salt are dissolved into a tub of body temperature water to create an effect similar to the Dead Sea, the world’s first spa. The flotation room is lightproof, and free of noise and other distractions. As if in deep meditation, your body and mind achieve calmness, entering into a theta brain wave state. When combined with the zero-gravity water environment, the flotation allows your body and mind to enter into its deepest state of relaxation.
Doctors and athletes having been using Flotation Therapy for neurological, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, muscular, and skeletal disorders. The list of conditions that benefit from flotation is extensive and well-studied.
In addition to the many benefits, your learning abilities are at their greatest and your powers of visualization and creativity are substantially enhanced during flotation therapy. It has been said that you can learn a language in half the time while floating.
– A one-hour session is equal to four hours of restorative sleep
– Reduces cortisol levels back to a productive and normal state
– Creates an environment where the “training of the mind” becomes effortless
– Speeds recovery time after any type of injury
– Regularly scheduled floating balances a stressed-out immune system.
– Salt is a great muscle relaxer and anti-inflammatory mineral that also aids in the detoxification of the body.
What To Expect At Your First Float
The staff at Salt Water Sport & Spa are here to assist you in achieving the most beneficial flotation experience. Before your first float, you will receive consultation to help guide you through the steps to a perfect float experience.
Your first float:
- When you arrive at the spa, you will be asked to complete an intake form and change into a robe.
- Next you will enter the flotation suite. Your time in the suite will be completely uninterrupted.
- Begin your float experience by taking a five-minute shower using our pre-float products to ensure you are clean of any body oils, soaps, moisturizers, deodorants, perfumes, etc.
- Then enter the flotation cabin. While resting in the water, you will control when the lights are turned off.
- At the end of your float, the lights will come on in the cabin to indicate your time has ended.
- You now take a post-float shower, relax in private in our infrared sauna.
Preparing for your Float
Try to schedule your appointment at a time when it is easiest for you to relax, similar to a time when you would book a massage. Any physical activity prior to your appointment will enhance your overall experience.
Salt water will not harm coloured or treated hair; however, we ask that you wait 48 hours after your treatment so as not to contaminate the spa water.
Please refrain from suntanning or spray tanning sessions three days prior to floating.
If you have large cuts or open wounds, are experiencing an illness, or it is during your menstrual cycle, please contact us so we may advise you properly.
It is best not to have a big meal, or any caffeine, within two hours of your scheduled appointment.
- Do not shave at least four to six hours before your float, as the salt water may sting. If you have any small cuts, scratches, or bug bites, we provide liquid bandage to cover those up.
The following toiletries are provided: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, makeup remover, hair dryer, hair brush, and curling/flat irons. You may bring a toiletry bag with facial products, shaving products, deodorant, and makeup.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from a Float?
Every person’s float experience is unique. Some people instantly take to floating and are able to experience a completely relaxing float during their first session, while others require several sessions before they are able to completely relax in the sensory-deprived environment. Similarly, some people feel extremely relaxed post-float, while others feel energetic. Come with an open mind and let the experience of floating take you where it will.
What if I am claustrophobic?
We offer a flotation cabin, as opposed to the traditional flotation tank. While the drawback of a flotation tank is the enclosed space, flotation cabins are spacious enough to stand in, and seldom a concern for even the most claustrophobic of floaters. If you are concerned, please book a tour of our float room to see where you will be floating.
Is it sanitary?
Yes! The water in a flotation cabin is the most sanitary water you will likely every enter. After each floater, the water runs through three filtration systems, including UV and ozonator systems. In addition, with the natural bacteria-killing qualities of salt, the water inside the tank is cleaner than tap water. We take every precaution to provide you with the cleanest, safest, and most relaxing experience possible.
What do I wear?
Nothing, as swimsuits may contain detergents that would strain our filtration as well as detract from the flotation experience.
How often do I need to float to achieve benefits?
You will experience benefits after only one float. However, like any therapy, consistent and repeated usage amplifies the results. Expect to float two to three times before you fully realize the unsurpassed feeling and positive difference that floating can make.
What do I bring?
The following toiletries are provided: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, makeup remover, hair brushes, deodorant, hair dryer, curling/flat irons. You may bring a toiletry bag with facial products, shaving products, and makeup.
